About Stephanie

"When in doubt, go to the library."

I could not have said this better myself, Hermione!

I'm Stephanie.  I'm the big sister.

My introduction to Harry Potter stemmed from my great love of children's literature.  I actually have Erin to thank of for that.  She gifted me a copy of Where the Wild Things Are for my high school graduation -  a half joke because I had the book completely memorized from having read it so often to a child I babysat regularly.  Yet, it became a springboard for collecting picture books, a collection which has gotten quite ENORMOUS.

I took children's lit in college and was later invited by the professor to join an adult child lit book group, which I am still a member of today. Harry Potter was a monthly selection and immediately knew it was special.  The only time I missed a midnight release of a book was when my youngest came into the world 15 minutes before the release of the Half Blood Prince.

I am the mother of 3 teens.  All of them are brilliantly strong willed, imaginative, clever children who challenge me like nothing else.  Along with my husband, they are my great calling.  Their vastly different interests have carried me in a wonderful myriad of directions over the years.

My own interests are cooking and baking, Scrabble, strategy board games, meditation, and watching movies with cheesy happy endings.  I also belong to two orange fur balls who I serve dutifully each day.  It's not a bad gig, it comes with a daily cat nap.

I live in the beautiful mountains of the Blue Ridge in the small college town of Blacksburg, Vigrinia.  I Uber drive on Hokie game days to help pay for books and craft supplies.

About Erin

I'm Erin.  I'm the little sister.  I'm a nerd and a geek.  It's important to say that I'm both, because one is not the same as the other, although nerds are frequently confused with geeks, and vice versa.

I really love Harry Potter.  I like other stuff too, but I like Harry Potter the most.  I started reading the books in 1999, so WOW, almost 20 years later I'm still a huge fan.  It was actually Stephanie who brought the books to my attention.  I was reluctant at first, because it was categorized as children's literature (which has since become one of my favorite genres).  Stephanie felt so strongly that I would enjoy the books, that she mailed me her copy of Sorcerer's Stone, which is a very early printing first edition.  I inhaled the book in about 2 days, then went out to buy a copy for myself, plus book two, and I think book three had just been published in the States.  Then I had to wait a whole year for book 4 to come out!

A few months after the release of book 4, I started working at a book store, and was lucky enough to help plan and staff midnight release parties for books 5, 6 and 7.  I loved working the midnight release parties so much that when book 7 was coming out, I asked to work during my maternity leave!  My first daughter was just two weeks old.  I made her a little onesie that said "Muggle Born" and a tiny broom out of an unsharpened pencil and yarn.  My husband brought her into the store for a few minutes, and a local news crew interviewed him.  Sadly the bit did not make the news because he told them his wife was a bookstore employee.

I'm a mom to 2 girls, the oldest of which was born just 2 weeks prior to the release of book 7.  Ironically, she has her own unique tastes and isn't terribly interested in Harry Potter.  That's okay!  I encourage her to be her own person and do her own thing.

I was delighted this year when my youngest, age 10, finally expressed an interest in reading the series.  She has just started book 4 and is loving them!  It's a lot of fun getting to share my passion with her after so long.

The Husband Unit is also a big geek (but not a nerd).   We have a beagle who is intensely loyal, and otherwise completely worthless.  She's cute and funny and we keep her around as an unending source of amusement.

I'm a freelance graphic artist.  For several years, my full time job was designing decals to decorate Disney MagicBands.  These days I'm working for a t-shirt company designing shirts and managing their social media accounts
